Giving money in the way of Allah |
Spending money in the way of Allah is very important. It is vital to be
loved by God. The balance of society is maintained by distributing the wealth
of the rich among the poor and helpless people. Sweet relationships are
established between rich and poor. Strong relationships are formed between the
people of the society. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said
Fatimah bint Qais narrated that : the Prophet said: "Indeed there is a duty on wealth aside from Zakat."

Fatimah bint Qais narrated that : she asked -or, the Prophet was asked -
about Zakat, and he said: "Indeed there is a duty on wealthy aside from
Zakat." Then he recited this Ayah which is in Al-Baqarah: 'It is not
Al-Birr (piety, righteousness) that you turn your faces.' (Al-Baqarah 2:177)

The Qur'an's guidance on spending money in the way of Allah
Regarding the virtue of spending in the way of Allah, Allah Ta'ala says
in the Qur'an,
Alif, Lam, Meem. This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a
guidance for those conscious of Allah - Who believe in the unseen, establish
prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them,
(Surah Al-Baqara
2:1-3)
In another verse Allah says more
Never will you attain the good [reward] until you spend [in the way of
Allah] from that which you love. And whatever you spend - indeed, Allah is
Knowing of it.
(Surah Al-i'Imran
3:92)
In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah Ta'ala says:
And spend in the way of Allah and do not throw [yourselves] with your
[own] hands into destruction [by refraining]. And do good; indeed, Allah loves
the doers of good.
(Surah Al-Baqara
2:195)
In another verse Allah says more
Not upon you, [O Muhammad], is [responsibility for] their guidance, but
Allah guides whom He wills. And whatever good you [believers] spend is for
yourselves, and you do not spend except seeking the countenance of Allah. And
whatever you spend of good - it will be fully repaid to you, and you will not
be wronged.
(Surah Al-Baqara
2:272)
In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah Ta'ala says:
Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the
west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah, the Last Day,
the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for
it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask [for help],
and for freeing slaves; [and who] establishes prayer and gives zakah; [those
who] fulfill their promise when they promise; and [those who] are patient in
poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true,
and it is those who are the righteous.
(Surah Al-Baqara
2:177)
In another verse Allah says more
The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a
seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains.
And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is
all-Encompassing and Knowing.
(Surah Al-Baqara
2:261)
By encouraging spending in the way of Allah, Allah further says,
They ask you, [O Muhammad], what they should spend. Say, "Whatever
you spend of good is [to be] for parents and relatives and orphans and the
needy and the traveler. And whatever you do of good - indeed, Allah is Knowing
of it."
(Surah Al-Baqara
2:215)
Regarding the best charity, Allah Ta'ala said,
And spend [in the way of Allah] from what We have provided you before
death approaches one of you and he says, "My Lord, if only You would delay
me for a brief term so I would give charity and be among the righteous."
(Surah Al-Munafiqun
63:10)
The benefit of
spending in the way of Allah
A) Increases life expectancy, increases life by spending money in
the way of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
Charity removes immortality and good deeds increase longevity.

B) Protects from bad death, is saved from bad death through charity. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet said: "Generosity is close to
Allah, close to Paradise, close to the people and far from the Fire. Stinginess
is far from Allah, far from Paradise, far from the people and close to the

in the way of Allah
A) Donations from legitimate assets

O you who have believed, spend from the good things which you have earned
and from that which We have produced for you from the earth. And do not aim
toward the defective therefrom, spending [from that] while you would not take
it [yourself] except with closed eyes. And know that Allah is Free of need and
Praiseworthy.
(Surah Al-Baqara
2:267)
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said,

what you do" (23:51). And He said: "O those who believe, eat of the
good things that We gave you" (2:172). He then made a mention of a person
who travels widely, his hair disheveled and covered with dust. He lifts his

Abu Umamah narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "O
son of Adam! If you give your surplus it is better for you, and if you keep it,
it is worse for you, but there is no harm with what is sufficient. And
begin(the giving) with your dependents, and the upper hand (giving) is better
than the lower hand (receiving)."

C) Don't hurt or hurt by giving
O you who have believed, do not invalidate your charities with reminders
or injury as does one who spends his wealth [only] to be seen by the people and
does not believe in Allah and the Last Day. His example is like that of a
[large] smooth stone upon which is dust and is hit by a downpour that leaves it
bare. They are unable [to keep] anything of what they have earned. And Allah
does not guide the disbelieving people.
(Surah Al-Baqara
2:264)
Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah and then do not follow
up what they have spent with reminders [of it] or [other] injury will have
their reward with their Lord, and there will be no fear concerning them, nor
will they grieve.
(Surah Al-Baqara
2:262)
Conclusion
Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their
properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the
cause of Allah, so they kill and are killed. [It is] a true promise [binding]
upon Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur'an. And who is truer to his
covenant than Allah? So rejoice in your transaction which you have contracted.
And it is that which is the great attainment.
(Surah At-tauba
9:111)
May Allah Ta'ala grant us all the grace to earn legitimate wealth and
spend that wealth in the way of Allah. Amen.
